How to Wear the Oversized Trend Without Looking Sloppy
Oversized clothing can look effortlessly cool — or like you borrowed someone else's clothes. The difference is proportion.
The proportion rule
- Keep one half fitted, one half loose
- Tuck or crop at least one edge
- Show a little skin: wrists, ankles, or collarbone
- Choose structured oversized pieces over shapeless ones
Outfits that work
An oversized blazer with slim trousers and pointed flats.
A boxy tee tucked into high-waisted wide-leg pants.
An oversized shirt worn open over a fitted tank.
Baggy jeans with a fitted top and a defined waist.
What to avoid
Oversized on top and bottom at the same time, and clothes so large they hide your shape entirely. The goal is balance, not volume.
When one piece is intentionally big and the rest is clean, oversized reads as fashion — never as sloppy.
